Delegates meet in Kansas City

The delegate body of the American Agriculture Movement met at the Clarion Hotel in Kansas City on August 7th and 8th.

Leo Hopper and Wayne Allen reported on the NFFC meeting held in Albany, NY.

There was much discussion including: COOL, NAFTA, GATT, Farm Aid. George Naylor was suggested as a possible speaker for our 2005 Convention.

Charles Broomfield, Democratic candidate for State Representative for the 6th district of NW Missouri, was a guest speaker.

It was decided to attend the National Broadcasters Meeting in Kansas City on November 17, 2004. AAM will have a booth to distribute information on COOL, fair trade (not free trade) and other pertinent issues such as how Agribusiness dominates agriculture.

A letter from the U.S. Commodities Futures Trade Association was read by President Buddy regarding petitions recently filed with the Commission by the CBOT, Kansas City Board of Trade and the Minneapolis Grain Trade Exchange seeking repeal or amendment of the Federal speculative position limits set forth in Commission Rule 150.2 and an update on the status and use of off-exchange risk management products being offered to the agricultural community.

“The Farmers Flyer,” compiled by AAM, will be distributed to the public to make them think about where their food comes from. This flyer also asks the public to support Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) by e-mailing or phoning the Secretary of Agriculture, Anne Veneman.
