Demand Country of Origin Labeling

A recent AP article by Libby Quaid revealed that EPA funded research found pesticide levels in children plunged when their diets were changed to foods without pesticides. Some of the highest levels of pesticides were found in imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach and strawberries.

The deadly H5N1 bird flu virus which kills half of those who contract it is in Asia and Europe. It is believed humans contract this flu by coming in contact with infected birds, their meat, eggs or anything connected with the birds. At a temperature of 0 Celsius the virus can survive for more than 30 days.

All the more than 36,000 Mt of imported poultry and eggs (2003 totals) are not tested to prove they don’t contain the H5N1 virus. All of the million of pounds of fruits and vegetables imported with their high levels of pesticides are not tested or identified for consumer.

These examples are just two of the many reasons farm broadcasters should be constantly informing their listeners of the need for mandatory Country of Origin Labeling. Demanding implementation of mandatory Country of Origin Labeling is necessary to help protect health and lives of our children!

This is another insert for the packets handed out to broadcasters at the Farm Broadcasters Convention in Kansas City.
