Homer O. Evans

Homer O. Evans of Ulysses, Kansas passed away May 10 in Wichita.  He was born on October 6, 1921 in Kiowa County, Kansas.

He is survived by Bertha, his wife of more than 50 years, three daughters and several granddaughters.

He was a World War II veteran.   He was shot down three times during his tour of duty in the Army Air Corps.  He was part of  U.S. forces that liberated a concentration camp   held by Hitler's army.  Homer was given the Presidential Medal of Honor for his service to his country. He was a faithful and dedicated member of the American Agriculture Movement, Inc., serving as Chairman of AAM’s Parity Fund.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 13, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Dr. Max Clayton officiating.

Pallbearers were Bill Leonard, Leroy Patee, Chuck Peoples, Jerry Borthwick, Bobby Novarette and Jim Hickok.  Honorary Pallbears were Howard Stude, Keric Sullivan, Wallace Bohling, Joe Rainman, Milton Fischer, Ray Keply, Gingo Akogi, Danny Olson, Chris Lorlovick, and Roger Schultz.

Military Rites by Charles B. Hart, Post 79 and Masonic Rites by Masonic Lodge # 435, Ulysses, Kansas.  Burial was in Golden Cemetery, Ulysses.

Memorials may be given to the U.S. Holocaust Museum or donors choice both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W Grand, Ulysses KS 67880.

AAM was very blessed to have a man of Homers background supporting the efforts to save the family farmers of rural America. He will be greatly missed.
